"Take a Second" an NCAD Grad Show Installation

Take a Second explores the conflict between a person’s desire to express their struggles, ideas and aspirations, and the fear of hindering a relationship due to vulnerability. This is accomplished through self portrait photography, abstract painting and text. The audience first meets a collection of prints pressed under a display case which illustrate the artist’s suppressed emotions. Above that, prints hung on the wall to show her will to share those emotions. Moving further into the space, Miltiadi displays a print where she overlays a stream of consciousness diary entry about her current struggles (written in red), and a poem which highlights how one bad story can ruin someone’s perception of you (written in blue) next to her self portraits following the same colour scheme. This layering process creates an anaglyph code which can only be read under specific conditions that the audience can trigger. Therefore, the audience can impact how the work is read and are taken on a journey starting with confusion and ending with clarity. The more you read, the more you learn about the artist and her struggles.
